NBA China & MySpace Partner up

Myspace.cn and NBA China have announced the launch of an interactive community for NBA fans in China. The site can be found at http://nba.myspace.cn/ and represents the first major partnership between a sports league and a social networking site.

The partnership makes sense as Myspace is looking for alternate ways that people of similar hobbies can interact, while NBA China wants to create more interaction with its growing fan base in China.  The site allows users to see official news, pictures, events, pictures, and even NBA player blogs. At present, 15 NBA teams and more than 30 star players have established themselves on MySpace. Fans also naturally are encouraged to interact with each other through their personal pages, blogs, and discussion forums. A competition is running from April 15 through May 26 that offers the “Most Valuable Fan” the chance to see a pre-season game which will be held in China in the upcoming season.

This development comes in light of news that NBA China’s official site has seen considerable increase in traffic in the last couple of months and NBA China CEO Tim Chen notes that he’s extremely happy with the partnership and being able to “further develop the NBA in the existing Chinese digital media network.”
