Yao Ming’s Injury: Yao’s Agent and China Basketball Weigh In

Washington Wizards (and probably the rest of the NBA) looking for Chinese Sponsors

The Sports Business Journal has reported that the Washington Wizards will head to China this offseason in search of sponsors, despite seemingly no direct link to the Middle Kingdom.
But even without their own personal Yao Ming to kickstart their journey to the Far East, this is a very wise business move and one that most teams will emulate in the coming years.
The financial crisis has no doubt severely affected most sports franchises, and alternate sources of income have become a major priority in the off-season.

China Beats Australia…Again 74 – 61

China’s National Basketball Team beat Australia in their second friendly match of the week with an impressive 74-61 victory. NBA stars were largely missing with Australia’s Andrew Bogut, Patrick Mills and China’s Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian all not participating in the match.
Sun Yue, who’s just completed his first season with the Los Angeles Lakers, again failed to impress with only 3 points.
Li Xiaoxu, who’s Yao Ming’s replacement at center, gave another strong performance with 13 points and 9 rebounds just one day after it was announced Yao Ming’s career …

Chinese Basketball Team Beats Australia 84:78 in Friendly

The Chinese National Basketball Team continue their preparations for the 2009 Asia Basketball Championship, and have defeated Australia 84:78 in their first friendly match in Beilun, China.

The Chinese Basketball team was without their two star players Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian, but National team veteran and former NBA player Wang Zhizhi led all scorers with 20 points. Sun Yue came off the bench and also contributed with 4 points and 3 rebounds.
This was Guo Shiqiang’s  first match in charge of the China basketball squad. He will have a chance to collect …

Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) in Trouble

Club representatives from 18 teams and committee members of the CBA met on June 23rd to complete a 2 day board meeting discussing the future of the China Basketball Association. With losses of around 115 million RMB (17 million $) in the 2008-2009 season, stakeholders clearly had alot to talk about.
